Water-power system, dam and network of canals

The project is located to the river " Vacha " and includes:

• a dam lake
• an water-power system
• the new-builtad dam " Tsankov stone "
• the new-builted main road Devin - Plovdiv

The expanse of water will get to town of Devin.

  PROJECT " PERELIK "

A grand project, called “Perelik”, plans to connect the Perelik peak in Pamporovo with the Mechi Chal peak near Chepelare. According to the mayor of Smolyan, the realization of the project will form Rodopi Mountain as a tourism centre with three main tourism bodies - Mechi Chal, Pamporovo and Perelik. The territorial plan of the new resort is ready.

The assessment for the environmental impact has already received the approval of the Ecology Ministry. The mayor of Smolyan Dora Yankova announced that the execution of the project will start this summer and next year the tourists will be able to see the results.

The Perelik project is stressing on the building of ski pistes and equipment for around 55 million Euro and the construction of hotels in Smolyanski ezera and Raikovski livadi sites. At the moment Pamporovo resort has almost 18 kilometres of ski pistes and 4,920 beds. The plan is additional 29.8 kilometres ski pistes and the equipment, to be constructed and the number of beds to increase with 8000.

There is still no real contract for investments, but the Mayor claims that the investment interest is huge. Chepelare municipal helped the Perelik project by introducing the plans for Mechi Chal. It includes 27 kilometres of new ski pistes and 12 kilometres of lifts, 15 kilometres ski run pistes and biathlon, plus a stadium.

At the moment Chepelare has 12 kilometres of ski pistes. According to the plan of the municipal administration the now existing base of 1200 beds should increase three times and the project will be build on private lands and forests. The mayor announced that many private companies are interested in the project, although there is still no contract signed.

Main goals of the project are to create opportunities for realization of sport- tourism centre with the characteristics and parameters, allowed by the laws and the territory organizational decisions, included in the approved and already operative plan for Sport- tourism Centre Perelik, developed by the Smolyan municipal.

Smolyan municipal intends to organize and cooperate for the realization of a major tourism project for construction, exploitation and maintaining of the sport- tourism centre “Perelik” as a public complex of a mountain base for winter sports and sport equipment. Smolyan municipal will develop infrastructural and town organization of the stay and transport of the tourists willing to use the respective equipment.

The municipal intends to participate in each phase of development of the project. It will be a regulative body which will follow the execution of the approved projects. Equal access for the investors' plans will be guaranteed.

Main data

The project plans the construction and exploitation of sport- tourism centre including:

- 28 km ski pistes, situated in accordance to the requirements of TUP and OBOC
- A system for construction and exploitation of ski lifts and drags.
- Restaurants and tea rooms
- Construction of new, reconstruction of the already existing and renewing of the infrastructure equipment, transport bases, water conducts and electricity net, drainage, telecommunications and other equipment of infrastructural character.

The territory of the investment project will take a total area of 2191,3 hectares and takes parts of the mountain, located around Perelik and Kozuiatok peaks, situated Northwest of Smolyan. Land plots from the resort villages- Gela, Stikel, Stoikite and Mugla will also be included in the project.

The projects should be prepared in several stages and should be considered according to the results of the Eco- monitoring.
